Muscadine is a native grape. It handles the heat and the rain that rot vinifera. Noble, Carlos, and Welder are the names on the serious bottles.

Lakeridge, on US-27 in Clermont, is the estate. About 80 acres of vines, tours every day, and a tasting that runs from dry to sweet to sparkling. Ask for the dry one first.

If a Florida bottle says Cabernet or Chardonnay, ask where the fruit was grown. At this address, the vine outside the door is Muscadine.
